Back to Basics: Love Your People

About the Speaker

I am a human-centered design practitioner, workshop facilitator, and team leader. My ‘specialties’ within the design world are systems thinking, strategic foresight, business design, and change management.

Currently, I lead an Innovation Team within the Federal Government of Canada focused on providing service excellence to Veterans and their families and helping to guide transformative change from within the organization. I am new to public service, and loving it so far! Before that, I worked in management consulting and advertising (so different in so many ways!). Outside of work, I enjoy the simple things – a peaceful walk in my tree-lined neighbourhood, a cheeky glass of wine with friends after work, and an unnecessarily competitive game of cards!

About the Session

We’ve all had a bad manager. The tougher question is: have you ever caught YOURSELF being that bad manager? It’s OK. We’ve all been there. Design leadership is hard. There’s a lot going on, and too often, people management slips to the side of the desk.

In my short talk, we’re going back to the basics – you gotta love your people. Together, we’ll explore what this really means, and I’ll share a few practical strategies you can bring back to your team the very next day. When your team succeeds, you succeed, and so does design.
