About the Workshop
When designers become design leaders, they often don’t realize that the skills that got them there aren’t the skills that will carry them forward.
To be a great designer is to be a remarkable craftsperson and problem-solver. To be a great design leader is to excel at these four Archetypes: Coach (managing down, getting the most out of the team); Diplomat (managing across; ensuring design’s voice in the process); Champion (managing up; handling executives and stakeholders); and Architect (managing the team as it scales).
In this masterclass, we’ll dig into each of these archetypes, discussing practices and mindsets that will help you succeed within each. This class is a facilitated conversation among peers. Peter will provide brief presentations to set the table, and then lead a discussion to find out your challenges, your successes, and take advantage of collective intelligence to better enlighten us all.
Each Archetype also comes with an assessment tool for grading yourself, and then your team, afterward.
Peter has been a design executive & product leader for over 25 years, notably launched Adaptive Path, a premier UX consultancy and co-authored the first book on building in-house design teams from an organizational, managerial, and operational perspective: Org Design for Design Orgs.

FAQs
I do not manage or lead a team. Can I attend the Design Leadership Summit?
Though the content and programming of the summit is focused exclusively on folks currently managing and leading design and/or product teams, we will soon release some tickets for emerging leaders.
What is the cancellation policy, in case something comes up and I cannot attend anymore?
You can get a 100% refund if you cancel up to a month before the summit. You can also request a 50% refund up to two weeks before the summit.
Do you have any hotel recommendations?
We’re working on getting some preferred rates for hotels close to the summit venue. We’ll keep you posted.
What does the summit price include?
Your ticket includes the access to the conference, an invite to the summit app and slack group. You’ll also get access to the DLS official party, some way cool swag, and all the fun activities we have planned at the event.
How long should I stay in Toronto?
Our official programming covers two days: Dec. 6 & 7, 2022. We recommend coming to Toronto, by Dec 5th, so you do not miss on any part of our 2 day summit and the after party. If it’s your first time in the city, we recommend staying over the weekend, and explore Toronto with other design leaders attending the summit.
I need a visa in order to come to Canada for the Design Leadership Summit. Can you help with this?
Yes, we can write you a letter of recommendation for you to apply for a visa. Email support@designx.community your name, business address, and ticket order number. Please check with your local government office for any visas waiting periods.
