For Our Online and Offline Community Initiatives

Code of Code

Design Leadership Community, an initiative of DesignX, is an online and offline community of UX & Design Leaders. We intend for all of our initiatives to support individual growth, to strengthen our unique design network(s), and to encourage collaboration and bond with your local community. We ask you to help us build and maintain an environment that is safe, diverse, and welcoming for all.

Purpose

We want to build an environment, both online and offline, that is safe, diverse, and inclusive for all. We are committed to providing a space that encourages open discussions and collaborative learning amongst people of all backgrounds. This includes, but is not limited to members of any race, ethnicity, culture, national origin, colour, immigration status, social and economic class, educational level, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, age, size, family status, political belief, religion, and mental and physical ability. We expect all participants (community members; contributors, paid or otherwise; and other guests) to abide by our code of conduct.

Expected Behaviour

Open discussions, debate, comments, and feedback Self-promotion of your own work, both published and in-progress (please be mindful and avoid over-using the community for promotion) Sharing of articles, resources, events, and job opportunities that may be of interest and/or beneficial for the community at hand

Unacceptable Behaviour

Any actions or words that make any individual feel uncomfortable or threatened, both in our online initiatives or IRL events, will not be tolerated. Examples of such behaviours include, but are not limited to:

  • Violent threats or language directed at one or more individual(s)
  • Discriminatory jokes and/or language
  • Posting of sexually explicit or violent material
  • Posting (or threatening to post) confidential information belonging to others
  • Personal insults
  • Unwelcome sexual attention
  • Repeated harassment of one or more individual(s)

Reporting Violations

If you believe someone is behaving inappropriately in any of the aforementioned ways, please let our admins know with a concise description (and screenshot images, if available) via email at support@designx.community. At IRL events, we will do our best to point out specific admins to reach out to, during event introductions. At online events, we will do the same and let you know which admins you can DM should you witness any violations of our code of conduct.

Consequences

Membership in the Design Leadership Community Slack group is a privilege, not a right. The same goes for any of our online and offline events. In our efforts to provide a safe space for all participants, our admins reserve the right to remove folks who are not behaving appropriately, with or without warning, depending on the infraction(s) at hand.

We also reserve the right to discourage leveraging our community for the sole purpose of pushing traffic to any individual’s initiatives/events if they do so without bringing value to the community in return. Our hope is to curate organic conversations and genuine collaborations amongst members without having an outside party target a quality design community for marketing purposes.
